asdjds Carter .. detente .. en serio .. te llevaran preso .. ok no XDD
Love Carter’ expression on the second panel ! He looks so sweet…. *sigh* Unofficially, you actually are retarded, chéri.
Carter, not everyone is you. You are just coming off as annoying.
I think he mutually very retarded…. O.O
I am just AMAZED by the art… I hope the story starts getting… y’know… good at some point…
The hell are you talking about? The art here is shoddy and weirdly colored, while the story is already making me fangirl.
The drawing get amazing later on, though
ARH had a pretty iconic look to it. It still does, it’s just cleaner now. But the simplistic style with (what most people saw) as nice coloring was something a lot of people found themselves drawn to. I like the old art style just as much as the new one.
It’s definitely the angle in the last panel.
everyone get’s laid in the stacks yo #butlerlibrary
Please don’t use the word “retarded.” It’s a slur used to equate “stupid” with “mentally disabled.” If you mean stupid, please just say it.
Adrian is a character in a story. He’s allowed to have flaws.
Yeah when i first wrote this i was trying to do the whole teenage-boys-are-unsophisticated kind of thing, and it ended up going to the print version. I’m hesitent to change it right now when the original print version is still for sale (and then people who purchase arh would get a slur they did not know about in hardcopy form). In the future print version this dialogue will be changed for sure :>
To be honest, I don’t think you should. People blurt words out, whether they mean it or not. And this is a perfect case of that– the whole unsophisticated boy/teenager thing was done well. Don’t change it because someone thinks the word use is inappropriate. It’s realistic. People say things that upset people, intentionally or not. It’s just a fact of life.
Yeah, I don’t disagree with you, but I just don’t think it adds enough to the story to be justified. It’s not forming any critique around the worduse, it’s just replicating a world where the use is considered acceptable, which isn’t really good enough honestly. Realism should be done in a more thoughtful way than that.
TBH i’m not huge on sanitizing writing but the line’s made me uncomfortable with myself for a good four years so it’s already dug its grave.
yeah, i just started reading this but i think this panel is going to make me not continue any further. really disappointed that you would prioritize the use of a vile, dehumanizing slur for the sake of a ~more realistic character~ over the lives of those with developmental disabilities.
Don’t let this one thing turn you off of the whole comic. This kind of thing only happens once. As a person with said developmental disabilities–although only minor–I was actually able to overlook it in favor of character development. There are far worse things that he could have said here, after all.
Anyway, truly a great comic. Read the whole thing in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the characters develop to what they have in the latest update.
It’s a case of character voice, not the author’s. Authors don’t have to necessarily agree with what their characters do or say especially if they’re trying to make these characters much more realistic.
You hardly here an actual gay person use the “we’re both gay so we belong together” thing
This whole conversation made me laugh a little bit. Adrian’s clearly not interested; Carter said in Chapters that he’s not that desperate. I dunno, Carter. You seem pretty desperate, haha.
Also, *shrug* I don’t love Adrian any less. It’s an unfortunate choice of words, yes, but it doesn’t turn me away from the comic. People, especially teenagers, use words out of context (like “literally”, “f*ck”, “emo”, “like”, etc) all the time. It happens; that doesn’t make Adrian (or any other person on this planet) a bad person.
I dunno. Bell and Hazel, I just wanted you to know that, while I agree that Adrian’s wording could have been better, it doesn’t affect how much I frickin’ love this comic.
Keep up the awesome work (and pretty please upload Page 180 soon~)!
“Not officially, no” Oh dear god rolf
Thank you everyone for your feedback on this page! I really appreciate the criticism and dialogue. Now that the print version is unavailable for purchase, it’s finally been changed for the better!
Considering Adrian hasn’t said yes or no to being gay (but come on ) Carter doesn’t know what his deal is and being a straight young male that officially will find interest in anything I can say at this point carter would be in a lot of hurt
So far, I’m loving this comic!
if Carter goes somewhere he just searches possible places to have sex, or what? XD
C’mon carter, your telling me you’ve never heard about David?????????
Oh he’s in for a rude awakening.
What’s so bad about it? First of all, you’re being a bit of a creep. Second, you’re being a pervy creep. Third, stranger danger!
STRANGER DANGER ADRIAN RUN
“You’re gay, i’m gay, let’s touch penises.”
No you def aren’t the only one trying to sleep with a stranger in a family bookstore *shudders* there’s the occasional creep…. (who gets promptly kicked out because our managers don’t put up with shit)
